Marquise Cut Diamonds

The Marquise cut is a modification of the Brilliant cut. From long and slender to more rounded, the preference for shape is an individual’s choice.

As a solitaire, the Marquise cut makes a dramatic statement and is a unique alternative to traditional shapes.

Its elongated form, with rounded sides tapering to pointed ends, resembles the outline of a boat. That’s why the Marquise cut is also known as the navette, the Latin word for a ship. The Marquise cut, which was popular in the 1970’s, is still admired today for its dynamic shape.

As with other fancy shapes, the Marquise varies in dimensions according to how the stone is cut from the diamond crystal. Marquise cut diamonds can be arranged in patterns and combined with other shapes, as drops for earrings or as a suite of diamonds in a spectacular necklace.
